My good friend Amor of Amorfrancis.com was ranting about her Google PageRank this September after the most recent update of Google about 2 or 3 days ago. Her site, along with many others, was deranked from PR3 to PR2. This site suffered the same fate.

However, I commented that she should not worry too much about her PageRank because a site’s PageRank is not permanent. This “season”, I could say that I’m still lucky for having a PR2 site despite the number of posts in this site worth some $$$.

Moreover, since I am struggling to groom this site into a personal site, I would like to know how a decrease in PageRank affected you psychologically or financially. Did this incident stress you out or you just shrugged it off? In my case, it did not affect me so much since I own multiple sites with PR. Business-wise, I think I will still earn the same amount of money until the next PageRank update.

When I had my first blog, going from PR3 to PR 0, I felt the difference with my earnings in doing paid blogging. I think PR really matters when you engage in those stuff. Well, even though I could risk losing my PR, it’s a good source of income and until now, the bulk of my earnings comes from doing that.
Regarding the psychological affect, I admit, felt bad the first time I lost a blog’s PR (kasi wala na akong kikitain… hehe). But when it happened again, I really did not care anymore. I realized that it’s not a permanent thing. Pana-panahon lang yan. But of course, I like having a PR on my blog. :)

    Elaine,

Me too, the bulk of my online income comes from doing reviews and PR in some network is really important. however, I’m building sites that are not designed for paid blogging. Doing reviews is very exhausting.

Ako, stress na nga sa work tapos magpapaka-stress pa sa kaiisip sa PR. Kaya bahala na muna yang gugel na yan. Although it’s discouraging to lose a point when you’re soaring high na. :-(

    Mhy,

Me too. I don’t give PR much thoughts these days. I spend more time building content for my sites and making some money along the way. However, I’d be honest. I get a bit discouraged too when I lose some PR scores.

Having PR is cool, but you’ll end up committing suicide if you focus ALL attention on it…a better way is to say “NO!” to search engines like Harvey Segal did.

    caleb,

you’re right. PR is important but it should not be any blogger’s primary concern. on the other hand, i understand why many bloggers aim at increasing their site’s PR because there is really some money involved in a site with high PR. ;-)
