May

As my first post this month of May in this site, I would like to share some of you readers what has happened for the last two months. For the last two months, my two sites have had this “unfortunate” surge of traffic. Some fo teh articles I wrote for them hit the first page of Google search results. The traffic of these sites combined caused a memory outage in my web host and so, as expected, being hosted with a shared web hosting environment created problems that really took a lot of time to solve.

My Tech Site (Technology Talks) and Entertainment Site (The Reporter) were the two sites I have metioned in the first paragraph. I moved the tech site to a Virtual Private Server. Unfortunately, even a VPS hosting account cannot do much when traffic surges. I tested a VPS company for one month just to see how it will handle high-traffic days. The web hosting package has a 256MB dedicated memory burstable to 1GB, as advertised. Unfortunately, with only 50 concurrent connections, the server went down for 3 hours!

Lesson: Read reviews (and I mean a lot of them) before getting a web hosting package. Determine their hardware and services provided to past and present customers. This will guide you in your quest for the most ideal web host. if I may add, choose the one with a cPanel web control panel.
