Toyota Corolla GLXi is one of my top choices for a used car. Depending on the mileage of the car (or age in years based on model year, a standard in the Philippine market), Toyotas sell between Php150-250K. At the moment, I only have less than Php100K and I am saving a hell lot of money just to get my family a car in December. Yeah, that’s actually my schedule because I want to greet the new year (2009) by getting a new “toy”.
I love cars and tweaking cars. We are a family of mechanics but I did not consider automotive mechanics as a career. My eldest brother did. My skills are good for simple “quick fixes” but for more serious car troubles, I call my mechanic.
For some history of Toyota Corolla in the United States, let me quote the following paragraph from the Toyota Corolla Virginia website,
In November 2006, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas added a facility in San Antonio. Toyota currently maintains over 16% of the US market share and is listed second only to GM in terms of volume. In the first three months of 2007, Toyota together with its half-owned subsidiary Daihatsu reported number one sales of 2.348 million units.
Wow! That’s truly a huge number. Even here in the Philippines, Toyota is the best-selling car brand.
Toyota has grown to a large multinational corporation from where it started and expanded to different worldwide markets and countries by becoming the largest seller of cars in the beginning of 2007, the most profitable automaker ($11 billion in 2006) along with increasing sales in, among other countries, the United States.
