This post serves as a travel guide to the weary traveler whose destination is Laoag City and other parts of Ilocos Norte, Philippines this summer or any time of the year. There are actually many hotels in Laoag City and Ilocos Norte. Why am I posting this? Well, Ilocos Norte is one of the favorite summer destinations of tourists because of its beautiful beaches and friendly people. A travel guide to Ilocos Norte is I think in order.
For some background on Ilocos Norte, it is a province of the Philippines located in the Ilocos Region in Luzon. Its capital is Laoag City and is located at the northwest corner of Luzon island, bordering Cagayan and Apayao to the east, and Abra and Ilocos Sur to the south. Ilocos Norte faces the South China Sea to the west and the Luzon Strait to the north.
Ilocos Norte is noted for being the birthplace of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos, who led an authoritarian rule over the country during the latter half of his incumbency. The Marcoses enjoy a modicum of popularity in the province. Ilocos Norte is also known as a northern tourist destination, being the location of Fort Ilocandia, an upper class beach resort famous among expatriates, and Pagudpud.
When planning a trip here in Laoag City, it is a must that you know where to stay in. Whatever is your budget, you can find decent hotels to stay here in Laoag City. I have stayed in some of the big hotels like Fort Ilocandia Resort Hotel and Northview Hotel. These hotels are quite good, really. I’m not really particular with the details because when I stay in hotels, it usually takes a day only. However, for some short comparisons of these two hotels, Fort Ilocandia Resort Hotel is near the beach, a walking distance but farther to the city proper than Northview Hotel. The latter is nearer the city proper but there is no beach nearby. It is understandable that you might have different purposes in staying here. I think these two hotels situated in different locations and with different ambiance will be enough whatever is the purpose of your travel.
